Whole Recipe Converter

Paste a full ingredient list — one ingredient per line — and convert the whole recipe between US cups and metric grams in a single click. Each ingredient is converted with its own published weight, and Fahrenheit temperatures become Celsius automatically.

    How it works

The converter reads each line the way a cook writes it: a quantity, a unit, then the ingredient. It understands whole numbers, decimals, simple fractions and mixed numbers (such as 1 1/2), unicode fractions (½, ¼, ¾), and the units cups, tablespoons, teaspoons, fluid ounces, millilitres, grams, kilograms, ounces, pounds and butter sticks. It then matches the ingredient name against our database of more than 130 ingredients — tolerating extra words like "sifted" or "softened" — and converts using that ingredient's own grams-per-cup weight from published references.

Lines with no measurable quantity (a pinch of salt, a handful of herbs) and count items (3 eggs, 2 lemons) are carried across unchanged, because there is nothing meaningful to convert. If an ingredient is not in the database, the line is flagged rather than guessed. For a single stubborn ingredient, use the Cups to Grams converter and pick the closest match yourself.

    Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a whole recipe from cups to grams?

Copy the recipe's ingredient list and paste it into the converter, one ingredient per line, exactly as written — for example "2 cups all-purpose flour". Choose "Metric (grams)" as the target and press Convert. Every line the tool recognises is rewritten in grams using that ingredient's own published cup weight, and oven temperatures in Fahrenheit are converted to Celsius at the same time.

What happens to lines the converter does not recognise?

They are shown unchanged and clearly flagged, never silently guessed or dropped. This usually happens for ingredients outside our 130-plus-item database, or for lines with no measurable quantity, such as "a pinch of salt" or "3 eggs", which are counts rather than weights. You can convert those by hand with our single-ingredient Cups to Grams converter.

Does the converter change oven temperatures too?

Yes. If a line mentions a temperature — "350°F", "350 degrees F" or "180°C" — the converter rewrites it in the other scale when you switch target systems, rounding to the nearest degree. Lines about timing, such as "bake for 30 minutes", are left exactly as written because time does not change with the measurement system.

Is my recipe uploaded or saved anywhere?

No. The conversion runs entirely in your web browser using JavaScript on your own device. Nothing you paste is sent to a server, stored in a database or shared with anyone. You can close the page the moment you are done and no copy of your recipe remains with us.
